Oracle has released the fourth beta release of version 5.0 of VirtualBox. VirtualBox can be used to install other operating systems in a virtual environment on a computer. In this way it is possible to use different operating systems on the same hardware side by side and at the same time. VirtualBox is available for Windows XP and above, OS X, Linux, and Solaris, and is capable of many guest operating systems to turn.

Version 5.0 of VirtualBox includes support for para-virtualization under Windows and Linux, which should bring performance improvements. Furthermore, more instruction sets from modern processors are supported, there is drag&drop to and from virtual machines and disk images can now be encrypted. The following improvements have been made in beta 4:

  • Drag and drop: various bug fixes for Linux hosts and guests
  • Encryption: fixed cloning VMs
  • Audio: Fixed volume control for mono streams
  • Audio/SB16: Fixed loss of output after loading saved state.
  • USB3: fixed attaching multiple emulated disks to the xHCI controller
  • 3D: fixed a crash on restoring the VM state (bug #12737
  • Snapshots: fixed Beta 3 regression
  • VBoxManage: fixed reading the partition table on Windows
  • iSCSI: fixed a hang during power off if the initiator connects to the target over the internal network
