Download Vim 8.0

Version 8.0 of Vi IMproved, or Vim, has been released. This universal editor was once developed by Bram Moolenaar for the Commodore Amiga, but is now also available for Unix, Linux, macOS, OS/2, DOS and Windows. Vim is not actively developed and usually there are a few years between the different versions. Version 8.0 is even the first major update in ten years. The most important improvements are highlighted in the announcement:

This is the first major Vim release in ten years. There are interesting new features, many small improvements and lots of bug fixes. Among the new features are:

• Asynchronous I/O support, channels, JSON
• jobs
• Timers
• Partials, Lambdas and Closures
• Packages
• New style testing
• Viminfo merged by timestamp
• GTK+ 3 support
• MS Windows DirectX support
