Alex Birj has released version 5.8.5 of Usenet Explorer. This program allows files to be downloaded from Usenet. Usenet Explorer is characterized by low processor and memory usage and extensive options, which may make it less suitable for novice users. Since version 5.8.1, the following changes and improvements have been made:

Changes in version 5.8.5:

  • Improved downloadable kill filter capabilities.
  • Fixed not discarding unneeded set names in certain situations.

Changes in version 5.8.4:

  • Fixed a bug in v5.8.3 when saving par2 files with “Unpack” in edit menu->properties->save/unpack unchecked (it is checked by default, so very few users experienced the crash), it was a bug in older not released code from January, implementing the following feature which wasn't announced in the previous release:
  • Handling of obfuscated par2 files without the .par2 extension.

Changes in version 5.8.3:

  • Fixed maximum posted file size limit, so now it is possible to post files larger than 4GB.
  • The search protocol had to be upgraded to fix the 3 bytes (16.7M) number of sets limit per server instance.

Changes in version 5.8.2:

  • Greatly improved unpacking of nzb files when imported as collections (default), including queuing and cleanup of heavily obfuscated posts (also see the latest forum posts, but the update goes beyond that).
