Download Ubuntu 16.04.1

The first so-called point release of version 16.04 of Ubuntu Linux has been released. That is also the first moment that users of the previous long term support version 14.04 are automatically presented with an option to upgrade. Users of ‘normal’ Ubuntu versions that come out every six months will automatically see an upgrade option with each new version.

A point release is a release that comes out about three months after the release of an lts version. This version is more stable than the version without .1 at the end. All existing Ubuntu 16.04 downloads have therefore been replaced by 16.04.1.

Lts versions are released every two years and receive updates and patches for five years, in this case until April 2021. The support duration of the various packages can be made visible via the command ‘ubuntu-support-status’.

Support lifespan

Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS will be supported for 5 years for Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Core, and Ubuntu Kylin. All other flavors will be supported for 3 years.
