A new version of Ubuntu Linux is released twice a year. As with AMD’s Catalyst drivers, the release year and month form the version number. Canonical provides support for each version for a year and a half in the form of patches and updates. Once every two years, however, there is a special LTS edition, especially for business. The abbreviation stands for Long Term Support and means that support is provided for three years. Of course, updates can be downloaded within Ubuntu itself, but new images are posted on Canonical’s website twice a year. Below are the release notes for this second update for 10.04:
About Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS
This is the second maintenance release of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, which continues to be supported with maintenance updates and security fixes until April 2013 on desktops and April 2015 on servers.
Numerous post-release updates have been integrated, and a number of bugs in the installation system have been corrected. These include security updates and corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
