Version 6.1a of Truecrypt was released last Monday. Truecrypt is an open source encryption program for Windows 2000 and later, Linux, and Mac OS X that can encrypt physical volumes (a hard drive or a partition) and virtual volumes (a file accessed as a partition). In addition, it is also possible to create a hidden volume in the encrypted disk. This second volume is only visible if the correct password is entered. So if you are forced to give the password, then you can only give the password that gives access to the entire encrypted disk. The second hidden volume is then completely invisible. More information about this can be found at this page to be found.

Version 6.1a includes some minor improvements, bug fixes and security vulnerabilities. This applies to Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. The developers won’t go into detail, but they do emphasize that it’s important to upgrade to the most recent stable release:

Changes in version 6.1a:

  • Minor improvements, bug fixes, and security enhancements. (Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux)

Note: If you are using an older version of TrueCrypt, it is highly recommended that you upgrade to the latest stable version.[break]
