Download Total Commander 8.00 final
After no fewer than 25 beta releases and two release candidates, the final version of version 8.00 of the file management program Total Commander has finally been released. The biggest change in version 8.00 is that a separate 64bit version is now also available. However, the average user will not notice much. Christian Ghisler, the developer of Total Commander, said: “The 64-bit bit version is mainly for ignorant people who think that 64-bit is better, and for some very specific usage cases (eg only 64-bit extension available, or 64-bit Windows PE with no 32-bit support). There is also a combined 32bit and 64bit installation, especially for people who want to use the 64bit version, but sometimes also need the 32bit plugins.
What’s new?
- There are no new features in the program itself since RC2, but the combined 64-bit+32-bit installer now also works on 32-bit Windows. It installs both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, but only creates a link in the start menu to the 32-bit version on 32-bit Windows
Total Commander 8.0 is the first version available in both 32-bit and 64-bit. Currently there aren’t many 64-bit plugins yet – I will publish them when they become available. Therefore you should keep the 32-bit version for the moment if you use plugins regularly.
A list of additions and corrections, also for previous versions, can be found in the history file.
As usual, the update is free for all registered users.
