The fourteenth beta release of Total Commander version 8.0 has been released. This program can be used as a replacement for Windows Explorer. Splitting the image in half makes it easy to copy files, but the program can do much more. There are various ways to modify files, there is a built-in ftp client and a multi-rename tool, and there is support for a large number of compression formats. Furthermore, the functionality can be extended with plugins. New in version 8 is that a separate 64-bit version is now also available. In this update, especially the deletion of complete folders under Windows Vista and 7 has become a lot faster.

What’s new?

Deleting to recycle bin in synchronize dirs should be much faster now on Vista/7 (if VistaDelete=1, which is the default). As someone suggested here in the forum, I’m now deleting entire directories in one function call, instead of each file separately (the entire list in one call does not work).

Total Commander 8.0 is the first version available in both 32-bit and 64-bit. Currently there aren’t many 64-bit plugins yet – I will publish them when they become available. Therefore you should keep the 32-bit version for the moment if you use plugins regularly.

A list of additions and corrections, also for previous versions, can be found in the history file.

As usual, the update is free for all registered users.
