Download SpamPal 1,591
On the SpamPal forum you can read that a new version of the anti-spam program of the same name has become available. It concerns version number 1.591 and it is available from here are downloaded. SpamPal checks the incoming email and will mark spam as such. This marking can then be used to create a filter that, for example, puts this e-mail in a separate folder or immediately throws it away. SpamPal can handle both POP3 and IMAP4 accounts and uses DNS blacklists and a Bayesian filter to do its job, among other things. James Farmer stated the following in his forum posting:
Following complaints that the last release v1.588 was catching less spam than previous versions, I’ve investigated and the result is v1.591 – this version fixes two bugs in the way public blacklist (DNSBL) queries were being handled. Both bugs have been present for some time and could result in spam slipping through the net, but this became more obvious after another bug in the blacklist-querying was fixed in v1.588.
v1.591 also contains a slightly updated French-language translation. Thanks to Michael for submitting this!
I advise those using v1.588 to upgrade to v1.591 immediately, especially if you’ve noticed more than the usual amount of spam slipping through the filters.[break]
