Download Songbird 1.1.2

On Wednesday a small update of Songbird was released with version number 1.1.2. This open source music player is based on Gecko and is therefore available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Songbird is developed by Poti, short for ‘Pioneers of the Inevitable’. This group includes developers who were involved with Winamp and Yahoo Music Engine, among others. Three bugs have been fixed in this release, which doesn’t seem like a lot given the huge list of known issues that are still being worked on:

BUGS FIXED IN THIS UPDATE

Volume changes between tracks
The problem documented in bug 15751 caused Songbird to change playback volume between tracks with different sample rates.

Crash on exit in Windows
Songbird will no longer crash on exit bug 15642. This was an intermittent problem that did not affect all Songbird users on Windows.

Media deleted from iPod during Songbird update

The bug that caused media to be deleted from iTunes-managed iPods during a Songbird update was fixed with an add-on update (bug 15640). This Songbird update has an updated add-on block list to ensure that the buggy version of the add-on cannot be loaded by the application (bug 15788).

NOTE:

• For play of DRM files, make sure you have gone to store where you purchased your DRM tracks from to learn how to authorize your computer to play those tracks. Songbird will be able to play those tracks as soon as your machine has been authorized.
• The following are not yet supported by Songbird (will be planned for future releases):
