Download Songbird 0.6

Songbird 0.6 has been released, a version that should be considered a public alpha. The program is an open source and cross platform media player created by Poti, short for Pioneers of the Inevitable. This group of developers was previously involved with Winamp and the Yahoo Music Engine. Version 0.6 has a large number of improvements. Not only has the performance been improved, the music library can now contain many more songs. Furthermore, the metadata (tags) can be adjusted, portable music players that support mtp can be synchronized under Windows and the iPod support has been improved. A complete overview of the changes can be found below:

NEW FEATURES AND IMPROVEMENTS

• We have implemented jemalloc as our memory allocator for XULRunner on windows and linux. On these platforms we’ve been noticing Songbird’s memory footprint has reduced between 15-20%.
• There is a new metadata editor! To check it out select a track and choose cmd/ctrl+e.
• We now write metadata back to the file.
• For Windows, the latest MTP add-on has been revved and we’re supporting more devices.
• For all OS platforms, the iPod add-on has been completely rewritten to support our new device API
• Major performance improvements in the library when scrolling, filtering and importing (we now support much larger libraries too.)
• For Mac, the latest Quicktime add-ons for ppc and intel greatly improve playback performance for local MP3 and M4A files (no more latency issues before playback begins.)
• We have added a survey to Help Make Songbird Better in this release. We will use your feedback to improve future versions of the Bird!

KNOWN BUGS/ISSUES

• sbINumberPropertyInfo (and createNumberProperty() for you Webpage API developers) was not originally intended to support floating point values. Due to tighter number format validation, you will get exceptions/errors if you try to set a number property to be a floating point value. For our next release, we intend on being able to support floating point values, but this is not yet available for 0.6. For workarounds you can treat them as regular string properties, and parseFloat() them to floating point values ​​as needed. This is being tracked as Bug 9914.

• We do not support data migration in this release. Please see our blog posts regarding this issue.
• Index column width can be shrunk to cut off index values
• Youtube scraping not supported
• Need to change the HTTP accept-language tag to match locale
• EULA/other dialogs text cropped when OS is using big fonts
