SocketShield focuses on protecting against dangerous exploits for unpatched bugs. For that purpose, SocketShield examines all information that accesses the PC from outside. Nevertheless, the program would not, if at all, strain system resources. More information about this application can be found in this news item. SocketShield is currently in beta and is therefore free to use. After the official launch, users will be required to pay $30 for the first year; the subscription fee in subsequent years is ten dollars lower. Version 0.9.5 is the first public beta and therefore does not yet contain an overview of changes compared to previous versions.
