Download Skype for Android 2.8 build 920
A new version of the Skype client for Android was released last week. The version number is 2.8 build 907 and you can download it via the well-known Google Play. New in this release is that the program starts up faster and indicates when an update is available. Furthermore, video is supported on more devices and the stability of the application has been improved. The full changelog looks like this:
The main improvements over the previous version are:
- Improved start-up time
- In-app notifications or Skype app updates
- Instant Messaging user interface improved
- Widened the support of video rotation to many more devices
Updated the list of devices which are video capable
A number of new devices have been video-enabled by default. New supported devices are:
- Samsung Captivate Glide
- Samsung Exhilarate
- Samsung Galaxy Note (GT-N7000, SGH-I717)
- Samsung Galaxy Player
- Samsung Galaxy S WiFi
- Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
- Samsung Vibrant Plus
- Samsung Vital
- Sony Tablet S
For other devices, you can enable video from the settings panel, but we can’t confirm the video calling experience on these devices.
Fixed:
- Generic: Addressed many issues causing Skype to crash
- Calling: Hardware volume buttons did not work on tablet devices
Known issues:
- Calling: Audio call volume could be low on some devices
- Group conversation: Skype may crash when starting a new group IM conversation
- Video: Video could be upside down on a few devices
Workaround: Control the Video Rotation in the settings panel
