Version 4.4 of Rufus has been released. Rufus is a Windows program that can be used to create self-starting USB sticks. Useful, for example, to install an operating system, which is faster from a USB stick than from a CD or DVD, to update the BIOS or to access a system that no longer wants to start. There are a large number of tools that can be used to do this, but Rufus claims to be one of the fastest of its kind. The following changes and improvements have been made in this release:

Changes in version 4.4:

  • Add workaround for distros that use broken symbolic links as their UEFI bootloaders (such as Mint 21.3)
  • Add support for GRUB 2.12
  • Fix a crash when saving .ffu images
  • Fix UEFI:NTFS partition not being added, in MBR mode, for some Linux ISOs
  • Prevent Microsoft Dev Drives from being listed
  • Improve support for SDXC card readers
  • Improve Large FAT32 formatting by aligning start of data regions to 1 MB
