The Rock Linux Live CD has been updated and has been given the version designation rev6454. Rock Linux is a collection of tools to create a GNU/Linux distribution from source. Ready-made versions of Rock Linux are also supplied, such as Crystalrock, Generic rock and a LiveCD. The latter is primarily aimed at desktops and uses KDE. It also has a number of standard applications on board such as Mozilla Firefox, mplayer and xine. For more information about Rock Linux, we refer you to the documentation wiki. The release notes look like this:

I just uploaded 2 new livecd ISOs, x86 (pentium-mmx and above) and powerpc (G3 and above). Again, some bugs have been squashed and many packages were updated. The hottest new feature in this release is the integration of ‘shadowfs’, which enables you to write everywhere transparently – so you can build own packages or install additional .gems at runtime. For more details, a complete list of changes and the ISO please follow the link below.

New in rev6454:

  • write access everywhere – thanks to shadowfs!
  • x.org instead of XFree86
  • firefox instead of mozilla
  • many, many package updates
  • hotplug replaces rockplug
  • ppc version tested on MacMini and PowerBook, no out-of-the-box X on iMacs (adapt config)
