The Raspberry Pi is a versatile development board on which different operating systems can be placed, depending on the purpose for which it will be used. The Raspberry Pi Foundation itself supplies Raspbian, which is based on Debian. A new version of Raspbian has now been released and the main changes are that VLC Media Player has been added with hardware acceleration, Thonny has been updated to version 3 and the configuration of the desktop environment is now done centrally.
