Simultaneously with the release of the final version of QuickTime 7, the developers of QuickTime Alternative released a new version based on Apple’s software. QuickTime Alternative allows you to play QuickTime files without installing Apple’s own software. The installation package comes with Media Player Classic 6.4.8.4, but once the codecs are on the system any media player can be used. The only change in this release is that the software is based on QuickTime 7.0.2.120 and as with Apple’s software, Windows 9x and Me are no longer supported:
