ConeXware released the second beta release of its PowerArchiver 11.5 archiving utility on Thursday. This program can handle common archive types such as zip, 7z, cab, lha tar, gzip, bzip2, rar, arj, arc and ace. In addition, it can also read CD or DVD images, such as iso, bin, img and nrg. PowerArchiver is available in two different versions: a standard and a professional edition. The first contains everything we’ve come to expect from the old PowerArchiver; the other can also burn CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs, create ISO files and also mount them as a virtual drive, and lastly can also be used as an ftp client. New in version 11.5 is, among other things, support for Windows 7. Also the formats of WinZip 11 and 12 have been introduced and the program has become a lot faster due to multicore support on systems with multiple cores and/or processors. The following changes and improvements have been made in the second beta:

• Improved RAR extraction – up to 20% faster than before, including WinRar.
• Improved speed of zip compression preparation – up to 10x faster than before on many files (both backup and main PA).
• Improved progress bars in various situations.
• Added SFX cab option to the shell extensions configuration.
• Added write directly option in backup.
