Download Plex Media Server 0.9.12.1

Version 0.9.12.1 of Plex Media Server has been released. This is a public release and not just for paid PlexPass subscribers. Plex Media Server is an open source media server for Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, OS X and various NAS devices. The software can serve content to clients on the same machine, within the local network or over the Internet. Client software is available for the aforementioned operating systems, but also, for example, for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Google TV and Chromecast.

The program includes its own software store, where plug-ins can be exchanged. For example, content from various streaming services can be viewed via these plug-ins. In addition, there is PlexPass, a paid service that gives early access to new versions, in addition to discounts on ‘Premium features’. The release notes for this release can be found below.

• Enable iTunes importing code for UNIX; set advanced preference with path to library XML.
• Support for decade-based filtering for movies and albums.
• Add a hidden preference for sorting albums (AlbumSort, with default value “year:desc”, you can set “year”, “title”, etc.).
• Add a new library preference to tell scanner to respect media tags (for new libraries).
• CentOS 7 support.

Fixes

• A crash shortly after startup.
• (Linux) Crash on start.
• (Windows) Scanner might not pick up new media, or might stop in the middle.
• A few other crashes and minor stability issues.
• Fix install/uninstall issues on Ubuntu/Mint.
• Fixed possible issue locking out an alternate admin user on Synology

Check channels for updates and make sure you have the latest Scanners update. If you want to try the new “respect tags” option, make a new premium music library with that preference enabled. Let us know how it works. †
