Raxco Software has just released version 8.0 build 64 of its defragmentation software PerfectDisk. This program reorganizes the location and order of the files on the hard drive so that they can be accessed faster. This results in faster program launches and PC booting. PerfectDisk is suitable for Windows 2000 and higher, in both the 32- and 64-bit, and Itanium variants. An evaluation version is available from this page can be downloaded, upgrade is possible from here. Prices start at forty dollars. The changelog of this release shows the following changes:

PerfectDisk Command Center

  • When viewing the History dialog, the text display was sometimes poorly formatted. This has been fixed.
  • Console incorrectly displayed the Last Run Date for a computer added to an existing schedule. This has been fixed.
  • Code was added to support adding computers to a group using the fully qualified domain name (ComputerName.Domain.com).

PerfectDisk Client

  • Code was added to exclude certain SafeBoot encryption files. Moving these files could cause your computer to become non-bootable.
  • If your drive was very large PerfectDisk displayed some of the statistics using scientific notation. This has been fixed.
