Various compression formats are used to reduce the size of files for storage or transmission over the Internet, such as arj, rar, zip and 7z. Pea is a relatively unknown compression format, which mainly focuses on data security. For example, it uses a flexible integrity check and can use both a passphrase and a keyfile to read the stored data. More information about the pea format can be found in this pdf to be found. PeaZip is the program that can be used to create and read a pea file on Linux and Windows systems. In addition, it also supports several other compression formats by using 7-Zip, PAQ8, Strip, UPX and QUAD. The developers have released PeaZip 1.8 with the following changes:

New:

  • Updated frontend to use 7z 4.47 beta, adding support for archiving open for writing files, fast Deflate and Deflate64, read/write AES encrypted ZIP files (WinZip AE standard)
  • Linux packages updated to use p7zip 4.47.1 instead of 4.47
  • Added read support for ACE archives
  • Added read support for SLP (Stampede Linux package)
  • Added suggest password function to generate 4-64 character random passwords (in create keyfile panel)
  • Added “Extract to…” entries in archive browser’s context menu to allow quick extraction of all archive, or displayed content, or selected object(s) to arbitrary path
  • Doubleclick action in archive browser is now customizable (just extract the item, extract and open the output path, extract and run…)
  • New tabular layout for graphic wrapper, with compression ratio and speed (logarithm) graphics
  • Added “Halt system when job finishes” option to job’s graphic wrapper.

  • Fixed some issues in options handling in 7z frontend
  • Code cleanup; moved p7z to 7z path, removed many conditional sections unifying Win and *x syntax
  • Open file, path or URL from PeaZip features ported to Linux (using Gnome or KDE)
  • Linux version: resolved some GUI issues on GTK2 (checkbox click behavior, replacing onclick with onchange on Linux) and GTK1 (shapes overlapping with other objects)
