Spread the love

Last Sunday a beta release of Parted Magic version 5.0 was released. Parted Magic is a Linux distribution specifically for partitioning hard drives. In addition to GParted and Parted, it contains several more useful tools, including Partition Image, TestDisk, TrueCrypt, G4L, SuperGrubDisk, and ddrescue. The software is released under the gpl license and is available in different versions. For example, there is a live CD, a pxeversion and a version that can be used from a USB stick. Parted Magic can handle ext2, ext3, ext4, fat16, fat32, hfs, hfs+, jfs, linux-swap, ntfs, reiserfs, reiser4, and xfs. The most important change is that Parted Magic has become multilingual. Furthermore, several components have been updated, including GParted to version 6.0. Keep in mind that this version is a serious bug contains.

Major new feature:

You can select German, French, Italian, Norwegian, Brazilian, and Russian languages from the boot menu. The “Default” and “Live” options are both supported as point and click. I’m hoping this new feature correctly sets the keyboard as well. These languages where determined by the countries which download Parted Magic the most. A large number of my cash donors come from Germany, so I have a great interest in supporting this country in anyway possible.
