Pamela does not mean that blonde babe, but an answering machine for Skype that comes from Pamela Systems. This software is able to record a message or send a text message to the caller if you don’t feel like or have the time to answer a Skype call. Pamela is available in two flavours, of which the Basic variant is free to use. The latest version of the answering machine is numbered 1.0a and can be downloaded by filling in this page† What changes have been made in this new release can be read below:

• Change: increased maximum recording time in Pamela Basic Version from 3 to 10 minutes. Recording length can be set individually from 1 – 10 minutes
• Change: message length now displays actual length of recorded message
• Change: re-architected connection to Skype resulting in more stable connection
• Change: re-architected Pamela kernel to three tier model resulting in better performance, increased stability and easier expandability. Now Pamela can be ported to other OS or connected to other VoIP clients
• Change: improved installation routine of virtual audio drivers. Windows audio drivers will not be changed anymore after installation. Great thanks to our tester Anders Olsson in helping on this!
• Change: updated default greeting message “Greeting.wav” to 48kHz
• Change: added new languages ​​(Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Bulgarian, Suomi, Islanska and Portuguese)
• Change: redesigned Pamela tray icon menu for easier access and usage (single level menu)
• Change: added option at the end of installation to have Pamela start with Windows
• Bugfix: fixed situations where Pamela icon disappears from tray bar area
• Bug fix: fixed issue where Pamela did not answer calls
• Bugfix: fixed issue where if Pamela started before Skype or if Skype is uninstalled and installed again when Pamela is active, “she” would not (re)connect to Skype.
• Bug fix: fixed issue where a message is recorded but call status in Pamela is “Hung up”

• Functionality: added a screen to make the recording of a greeting message more simple

• Functionality: added optional Skype status change balloon notification for all contacts on contact list (Standard Version only)
• Functionality: added link to survey on website after uninstalling Pamela
