Download Opera 7.60 technical preview 1

On the Opera web browser forum, the first technical preview of Opera is 7.60 published† This release is for Windows Mobile and Smartphone 2003 only, and is available from this location be downloaded. Technical Preview 1 is the first Opera version for Windows phones to be released to the general public. Early last month, the company announced it was working on a version for mobile phones that run Windows. This beta version runs through December 31, 2004 and takes approximately 4MB of memory. The 7.60 TB1 release notes state the following:

Security

• Root certificates and client-side certificates are not supported
• HTTP authentication is not supported
• SSL/TLS is supported, but there is no visual indication to the user (padlock icon or similar)
• There is no URL-field in the UI or other way to check the current URL
• After deleting History, it is still possible to walk “back” to previous URLs. Exit Opera to remove all traces of history.

• The browser will crash when clicking on links with “target=”

User interface

• Few dialogs and alerts have been implemented
• Popups not supported
• No bookmarks functionality
• Link navigation in “Fit-to-Screen” disabled mode is barely usable
