Spread the love

Opera has released version 36 of its web browser of the same name. Opera switched from its in-house render engine Presto to Blink three years ago. This is part of Chromium, which is also used by Google Chrome, among others. Opera is available for Windows, Linux and OS X. There are also versions for BSD and Solaris, but they are still based on the old technology. In version 36, the start screen has been overhauled, among other things. For example, the navigation panel has moved to the left and there are more options to adjust things to your own taste. There are also several improvements for use under Windows 10.

Refreshed home page
We’ve updated style for our top UI. The start-page navigation panel has been moved to the left to optimize horizontal space on popular widescreen monitors. You have been asking for more customization power over speed dial – in the top-right corner you will find the “Customize start page” cogwheel option, which allows you to change themes and customize news section in one place. If in opera://settings you tick “show advanced options”, start page configuration panel will too show few more settings, check for yourself! Note this is not the end of customization enhancements, more is incoming in Opera 37 already.

Modern-app-like browsing on Windows 10
The UI has changed even more on Windows 10. Opera now blends with the system, changing colors across the application to match its style. You can now control whether you want to keep the Opera colors or get a new system look by going to Settings.
Opera now adapts to your input method and makes life easier for those of you using touch. With touch input, it will automatically increase the size of toolbar items and all context menus, plus it will give you a new icon for the fullscreen move, exactly like modern apps do.
We’ve also added some cool-looking graphics to make our style blend better with the native style of Windows 10.

Opera vs other browsers
Unlike other browsers, we try to keep Opera UI as close to the platform as possible.
Unlike Firefox, we offer Windows 10 users native notifications, touch-mode support, the fullscreen icon and bigger context menus for touchscreens, as well as an option to switch to system colors.
Unlike Edge, Opera allows you to enhance and customize your browsing experience through extensions, including sidebar and speed dial extensions. To handle many extensions using toolbar icons in Opera 36 we’ve added an expander.
Plus, we also have animated themes that look just great on Windows 10.
