Opera has released the final release of version 12 of its web browser of the same name. Opera has browsers for all major computing platforms and for a variety of mobile operating systems. The browser offers tabs, can be controlled with mouse gestures, has an embedded download manager and offers protection against phishing and malware. Not only can you surf with Opera, but you can also send e-mails; there is a built-in bittorrent client and chat via irc. The release notes for version 12 can be found below.

Redesigned security badges
Now, it is easier to see privacy and security settings on websites with color-coded security badges in the address bar.

New APIs
Opera will offer a more robust and powerful API for windows and tabs, allowing extensions to interact with tabs, create groups of tabs, or manage windows.

Right-to-left scripts support
Opera now speaks four new languages. Now that the UI supports right-to-left languages, users of Arabic, Persian, Urdu and Hebrew can enjoy Opera in their preferred language. Learn more.

We are also launching support for WebRTC, HTML5 Drag and Drop, CSS3 Animations and Transitions, Do-Not-Track and CSS Generated Content for Paged Media. This will provide richer functionality to web developers and an improved experience for end users. See a complete list of new standards supported.

Experimental hardware acceleration WebGL support

Discontinuing Opera Unite, Opera Widgets and Voice
With this release, Opera Unite and Opera Widgets are removed by default for new users. We encourage all developers to move their solutions to the extension platform. Support for the legacy X+V standard and the UI voice commands has also been removed, as the voice-detection library is no longer supported by the third-party vendor.
