OpenRedAlert is – as the name suggests – an open source implementation of a game engine for Red Alert, with which the game can also be played on Linux, for example. This game engine does require two of RedAlert’s original data files to display all graphic elements. But since EA released the original game as freeware on the 13th anniversary of RedAlert, that’s no problem. must Cygwin-dll are available to get the game running under Windows. The developers have released version 462 with the following list of changes:
Version 462:
- Correct many bugs (ini files reading, decoding, etc…)
- Major refactoring of sources
- Start Support for MSVC
Version 438:
- Improve Fog of War
- MorphOS support
- Some refactoring (removing no-standard functions)
- Improve Sight algorithm
