Download OpenOffice.org 1.0.1

Anonymous: 25021 was the first to report that the open-source office suite OpenOffice.org has reached version 1.0.1. OpenOffice 1.0.1 is available for various operating systems, including Linux and Windows. A MacOS X version is in development. For the time being, only the English edition of this version can be downloaded, international versions will not appear before tomorrow. The Linux version is here to download, the Windows version here and the Solaris version here† A brief description of the bug fixes in 1.0.1:

• Several file saving operations tended to crash OpenOffice.org due to unreadable characters in the filename path. This has been fixed.
• Font cache problems have been solved.
• Font server discovery has been improved.
• Autopilot functions didn’t work when OOo is network installed on read-only partitions. This is fixed now.
• Fixes for Thesaurus (OOo used to crash when changing the language in spell checking)
• Any hyphenation dictionary should work now under any locale.
• OOo used to freeze when programs access /dev/dsp – for instance slide transitions in OpenImpress froze when they are accompanied with sound handled by the gnome sound daemon. This has been fixed now.
• Certain fonts caused the installation not to work in certain setups. This has been fixed.
• Fix compilation of MailDocumentConverter with optimization
• Many mismatches between memory allocation (array context) and de-allocation (not array-context) throughout the code have been fixed.
• Fixes for Costa Rica Spanish local settings.
• Changed the default to convert Excel Ole objects to Calc. This caused trouble in opening a large PowerPoint document with embedded Excel Ole objects.
• A local problem when starting OOo has been fixed.
• Chinese input method ‘miniChininput’ fixed.
• Fix for corrupted text in case the application windows is partially out of the screen.
• Spadmin did not check for ghost script correctly.
