AFS is a distributed file system originally from Carnegie Mellon University. It was then further developed and published by Transarc Corporation, which in turn was acquired by IBM in the mid-1990s. In 2000, IBM released an open source version of AFS released, under the catchy name OpenAFS. For more information, please refer to this page. The developers of OpenAFS have released version 1.6.18.3 for the Linux and Unix platforms. The corresponding announcement looks like this:

OpenAFS 1.6.18.3 – Maintenance release for UNIX/Linux

OpenAFS 1.6.18.3 is the next in the current series of OpenAFS stable releases for UNIX/Linux systems. It brings support for the client on Linux systems with mainline kernel 4.7 or distribution kernels with backports from it, fixes memory mapped I/O with large files on Solaris clients and adds packaging support for recent OS X releases.

Linux clients
Support for mainline kernel 4.7 and distribution kernels with backports from it (12348)

Solaris clients
Fixed memory mapped I/O on files >= 4 GiB (12349 12350)
Note that there is a suspicion that this might break the client on very old Solaris releases (2.6). If it does, the breakage should occur at build time.

OS X
Added tooling to build a package for OS X 10.10 “Yosemite” and 10.11 “El Capitan” (12335 12351)
