OnePlus has released an early version of a software update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. The intention is that the update ensures less battery consumption when the smartphone is not used. OnePlus also promises better performance on Android Oreo.

The software update is currently in beta and can be downloaded for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T with version numbers 27 and 18 respectively. Because it is an open beta, the software is accessible to everyone; the instructions for installing the update are also on the download page.

One of the most important improvements that the software brings is the improvement of the battery life in standby. This means that the battery has to drain less quickly when the smartphone is not used. OnePlus also states that the performance of the Android Oreo-based OxygenOS operating system is being improved and that several bugs have been fixed. In addition, the ‘do not disturb’ screen has been given a different layout.

It is still unclear how big the improvements of the update are when it comes to battery life. OnePlus has also not yet told when the final versions of the new software should be released. The open beta for the Android Oreo-based update started last month.
