A much-discussed aspect of Windows 10 is the amount of information sent to Microsoft. This is often useful, because many matters can be handled better that way. But not everything is equally useful, so there are certainly concerns about privacy. Fortunately, many of these ‘phone home’ options can be turned off, although not all of them are easy to find.

O&O Software, known for its defragmenter, among other things, has made a free tool available that can easily be used to turn many of these options on or off. In addition, it offers the option to create a system restore point beforehand. ShutUp10 is just under 200kB in size and does not need to be installed to do its job. The following changes and improvements have been made in this release:

• New Category “Microsoft Edge”
  • Disable websites saving protected media licenses on my device
  • Disable SmartScreen Filter
  • Disable Flip Ahead
  • Disable Tracking in Web
  • Disable suggestions for searches and websites
  • Do not optimize web search results on the task bar for vocal output
• Downgrading the following settings to “critical” because some users had problems logging into Windows when the setting was enabled
  • Don’t show last user on the lock screen
  • Fade-out ID of the logged-in user on the lock screen
• Available in German, English, French, Italian, and Russian
  • Language will be automatically selected based on settings in Windows
• Minor bug fixes
