In the version 0.80 of Nvu released a week ago, there are one major and some minor errors. That has made the makers, led by Daniel Glazman, decide to release version 0.81 of this so-called Web Authoring System. Nvu was developed by Linspire and runs on Windows, Linux and MacOS X. The direct competitors of this package are programs such as Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia Dreamweaver. The big difference that is immediately noticeable between these packages is open source/closed source and the cost of use. Nvu is based on Mozilla Composer’s code base and aims to be easy to use, even for the non-tech-savvy user. The changelog for this release looks like this:

Changes in 0.81:

  • In HTML4, the end tag of empty elements was not serialized. As a direct result, named anchors and empty script elements were horked, and documents with empty inline elements were completely messed up…
  • Help Contents menu entry is back.
  • On Linspire 4.5 and beta 5.0, launching the browser from the Browse button or Help menu entries was horked.
  • On beta Linspire 5.0, it was impossible to launch Nvu and Mozilla on the same desktop.
  • On beta Linspire 5.0, the Site Manager was not appearing on first launch, and never appearing in some bad cases.
  • Dialogs’ icon was showing the lizard on linux, it now shows Nvu’s logo.
