ThinkMac Software has updated their NewsMac Pro program to include 1.2 as the version number. The program can pull in the latest news from various Atom, RSS and Podcast feeds. After installation, the program already has a large number of feeds on various topics, such as world news, sports and religion. The announcement looks like this:

We’ve released a major new update to NewsMac Pro. Version 1.2 includes lots of exciting new features, some of which are listed below. This is a free update to all our existing customers.

New Features:

  • Tabbed browsing, searching and channel viewing.
  • Improved web browser with built-in Google search.
  • Options to automatically open/play certain download/enclosure types.
  • Feed groupings in imported OPML files respected.
  • New channel directory for adding channels from the built-in selection to your library.
  • New demo restrictions – the 30 day limit is gone, but until you register you can’t add more than 10 channels or folders.
  • Improved widescreen layout and new traditional layout.
  • Improved activity viewer.
  • New channel inspector replaces old details tab.
  • New toolbar control allows quick filtering of headlines being viewed.
  • You can now select which 3rd party channel sources are shown in the source list and no longer have to restart the application to see changes.
  • Simplified synchronization system.
  • New application icon and dock icon badge readability improved at smaller sizes.
  • Various user interface tweaks and refinements.
  • New themes: Diagonal One and Diagonal Two. Various themes updated and refined.
  • New channels are now placed in the selected folder where ever possible.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixes a problem when adding channels with certain combinations of feed and protocol type.
  • Fixes a problem with removing podcasts from the podcast player’s playlist.
  • Corrects a problem where a single failed enclosure download could cause a synchronization to fail.
  • The status bar always updates correctly now to show download status.
  • Various memory leaks plugged.
  • NewsMac tries harder to prevent you from adding the same channel twice.
  • Fixes an issue with OPML files being exported from NewsMac with the wrong encoding.

Known issues:

  • JavaScripts which attempt to open new browser windows result in an empty web browser tab being opened.
  • Certain file download links result in an empty browser tab with an error message.
  • The scheduled synchronization option has been disabled in this release while it has been reworked.
  • The help documentation for synchronization is slightly out of date.
