Download NewsBin Pro 6.30 Build 1795 Beta 5

The fifth beta release of NewsBin Pro version 6.30 has been released. NewsBin Pro is intended to retrieve files, such as photos, movies and programs, from usenet. These files can be downloaded in individual packets from one or more news servers and reassembled at the receiving end. Since version 6.00, the interface uses tabs and there is a cache-to-memory option that, if a machine has enough memory, reduces constant access to the hard drive. The main changes coming with version 6.30 plus the improvements from beta 5 can be found below:

Version 6.30 New Features and Changes Summary since 6.21

• New Sample mode allows you to view the beginning of a video before the entire rar set completes downloading. Available from the Download tab or the Files tab, both in the toolbar and in the right-click menu.
• Growl support for notifying on certain events.
• Made retries configurable. Should help for iffy connections. Default is 2. Can modify under Options/Setup.
• New column in Groups tab called “New Records” lists number of new posts since the last load.
• Better progress reporting in Download tab
• Fixes to resolve memory problems on 32 bit systems
• Ctrl-Y to force a download now bypasses spam filters too (Add to Download List – Bypass Filters)
• New authentication scheme for Remote Control Interface so you don’t have to enter your Newsbin key anymore (which is a pain on an iPhone).
• Expanded Unicode (UTF-8) support for folder names and throughout program.

Changes in version 6.30 beta 4 Build 1747:

• New “Sample” mode has been implemented. Access from the right-click menu of either the downloads list
  or the files list. Grabs existing rar files downloaded so far (or files in a master splitter set) and launches your player.
• Made changes to how post lists work to try to address the hang and crash issues reported.
• Fixed “Delete all Posts by Poster”. It wasn’t working for all “From” fields. Now converts to UTF-8 before processing. Includes improvements to make it faster and more effective.
• When picking an unrar path, AutoPAR now updates the example path as well.
• AutoPAR now parses the PAR files to allow some file tracking even when AutoPAR is disabled.
• Fixed issue processing ID3 tag “TYER” (old tag for Year, replaced by TDRC in ID3 v2.4).
• Change to catch filenames encoded in UTF-8 and weird ASCII/Unicode mix.
• All poster processing done on UTF8 data instead of UTF-16. Only use UTF-16 when rendering to display.
• Fixed weird problem processing MIME encoded posts.
• Now using memory DB for AutoPAR. Autopar2.db3 is only used to store stray files between runs. Addresses issue of it getting corrupted from time to time.
• Change to mixed ascii/unicode convertor to go straight to UTF-8 instead of UTF-16 then UTF-8. Also will not attempt a conversion if there aren’t enough high ascii characters. Some of the non-English language groups work better now.
• Switched logfile to a BufferedFileIO to keep it from working the disk too hard during download.
• Assemble Incompletes catches undownloaded files if one of the primary files is incomplete
• New icons for the options window and server window. Can activate and de-activate the servers from the icons
• Fixed issue where active Filter Profile wasn’t showing when double-clicking a group.
• Fixed issue with group list download because alt.binaries.boneless on Giganews went over 4.7 billion posts.
