Download NewsBin Pro 6.00 build 952 beta 14

Beta 14 of NewsBin Pro version 6.00 has been released. This program is intended to retrieve files such as photos, movies and programs from usenet. These files can be downloaded in individual packets from one or more news servers and reassembled at the receiving end. In version 6.00, the user interface has been overhauled; it now uses tabs. There is also a Cache to Memory option which, if a machine has ample memory, reduces constant access to the hard drive. However, on machines with fewer resources, this can be turned off better. The changelog for this release looks like this:

Changes in version 6.00 Beta 14 Build 952:

• Fixed issue where some files would get stuck in the download list and Newsbin would consume 99% CPU.
• Clean install (or clearing workspace.xml) now opens fewer windows on startup
• Set up Search tab to have new toolbars like the Post list
• Search tab now shows activity on the progress bar while a search is processing
• Fixed issue where typed in searches don’t get added to dropdown.
• Selecting a previosly entered search term from the dropdown now initiates the search automatically
• Fixed problem downloading mime encoded files
• Fixed export to CBZ function for the Image Database feature
• Fixed issue where column widths in some tabs were not getting saved. Introduced in B13

Upgrade NOTES:

You will want to say “Yes” to the option to “Reset Version 6 GUI?” from the installer (delete workspace.xml) with this one.

Version 6 has a new storage format for headers. You have to manually invoke the conversion if you want to bring your 5.5x headers into V6. A new spool folder, SPOOL_V6 will be created for storing headers. To invoke the conversion, select a group or a bunch of groups in the Groups tab, right-click and select Post Storage, then choose “Import Version 5.XX Headers”. A progress screen will pop up and you’ll have to wait for it to finish before continuing.
