Download Mozilla SeaMonkey 2.0 Beta 1
Mozilla Foundation released the first beta release of the next generation of SeaMonkey on Tuesday. SeaMonkey, the continuation of the former Mozilla Application Suite, consists of a web browser and programs for e-mailing and reading news. Finally, there is another simple html editor. Unlike the Mozilla Application Suite, SeaMonkey is maintained by the community, while the Seamonkey Council oversees maintenance. The main changes in version 2.0 are that the web browser is now based on Firefox 3.5, the MailNews application can also display RSS and Atom feeds, and the password and download manager have been greatly improved. A complete overview of the changes since version 1.1.17 can be here are found, while the release notes for beta 1 are the following:
SeaMonkey 2.0 Beta 1 Previews the Next Generation
It took a bit longer than previously expected, but that fact makes the SeaMonkey team even more thrilled to announce SeaMonkey 2.0 Beta 1previewing the next generation of the successful Internet suite.
Building on the great heritage of the Netscape Communicator and Mozilla Application suites, SeaMonkey 2.0 Beta 1 combines a state-of-the-art web browser based on the same core as Firefox 3.5.1 with a solid email and newsgroups client and a simple HTML editor, rounding up the experience with web development tools and IRC chat.
In addition to the changes in the alpha releases, this version features
- the same browser core and web feature support as Firefox 3.5.1,
- a reworked download manager, including support for cross-session resumable downloads,
- localized builds – Windows/Linux/Mac packages are available in 15 languages officially (two additional ones are experimental) from day 1,
- feed preview and improved feed subscription from the browser,
- fully customizable mail/news toolbars,
- email archiving support,
- and a lot of other, smaller improvements.
