While still on MediaPortal 2.0 is being tinkered with, a new stable release from the 1.x series has appeared. With this program, a Windows machine can be used as the heart of the multimedia hardware in the living room. This makes it easy to listen to radio and music, as well as watch videos and DVDs. TV programs can also be recorded. By means of plug-ins and extensions, the functionality can be expanded and the look & feel of the program can be adjusted. Here are the main changes in this release:

- Enhanced TV experience
MediaPortal IconFor users of Closed Caption subtitling, MP 1.12 can now decode and display Closed Captions from TV channels using H.264/AVC video compression (in addition to the existing MPEG2 capability). - Gamepad support
Now supporting a wide range of gamepads out-of-the-box through our improved HID input device option. Usage for common gamepads is illustrated here. Note that MCE remote and keyboard support is now covered by MP’s HID input device management.
