The original author of Media Player Classic, a small no-nonsense media player with the look and feel of Windows Media Player 6.4, has been discontinued for a while. Several people have picked up the open source source code and moved on with it. One of these is Media Player Classic Home Cinema and version 1.2.908.0 was released on Saturday. Like the original MPC, this media player, in combination with the ffdshow filter, can display just about anything it throws at it. However, it also has a number of extras that are particularly interesting for use on an HTPC. For example, there is an option for anti tearing, Directx video acceleration, synchronization for subtitles and support for the Shuttle PN31 remote. More information is on this page to find.
