Spread the love

Alt-N Technologies has released version 13.5.0 of MDaemon. MDaemon is a mail server for the Windows platform, with built-in antivirus and antispam capabilities. In addition, calendars, and address and task lists can be shared, and senders can be validated by means of DomainKeys or Sender ID. An overview of all possibilities is on this page to find. In version 13.5 Several improvements have been made to ActiveSync, groups and templates for accounts can now be created, and colors have been added to the log file for easier reading.

Colorized Session Logs
The mail routing information that is displayed via the tabs at the bottom of the MDaemon interface is displayed in Colorized Session Logs. This allows protocol commands and errors to stand out for easier review and troubleshooting.

Public Folder Manager
Public Folders are now managed via the Public Folder Manager, under the Setup menu. Folders are arranged by domain in a hierarchical menu. Custom access rights can be delegated on a per-user basis.

Improved Domain Manager
Many settings that were previously universal can now be configured on a per-domain basis. The concept of primary vs. secondary domain has been replaced by the domain manager, which allows you to configured domain-specific settings for each domain. Each domain can now be configured to use its own, separate smart host.

Account Grouping and Templates
The Accounts menu includes a Groups and Templates menu. Templates are used to control the services and features that are available to accounts belonging to groups that are assigned the selected template. Thus, groups can be used to assign most of an account’s settings automatically. For example, if you want to assign an auto-responder to a certain set of accounts, you can create and name an account template which defines the auto-responder, then assign that account template to a group, and then finally assign one or more of your accounts to the group. From that point, the template will determine the account’s auto-responder settings. Templates can control almost all or just select portions of an account’s settings. You can decide what portions of an account’s settings are to be part of a template.

Improved Attachment Linking
Attachment Linking is a feature that makes it possible for MDaemon to remove all attachments from incoming email messages, store them in a designated location, and then place URL links to the files in each message from which they are extracted. The recipients can then click those links to download the files. Beginning with MDaemon 13.5, attachment linking is now supported for outbound messages. Attachment Linking can now be enabled on a per-user basis. When the user sends an email, Attachment Linking will extract the file, store it, and replace it with a URL that you can customize. Another new option was added which allows you to specify a minimum size below which attachments are not extracted. Using this, you can configure MDaemon to ignore small attachments and only pull out larger ones.

Improved Active Directory Monitoring
Active Directory monitoring has been improved to periodically query AD and keep all public contact records updated with the most recent information stored in AD. Common fields like an account’s postal address, phone numbers, business contact information, etc will be populated into their public contact record and this data will be updated any time it is changed in Active Directory. Numerous contact record fields will be monitored in this way.

Performance Counters
Performance Counters have been implemented to allow monitoring software to track MDaemon’s status in real time. There are counters for the number of active sessions for the various protocols, number of messages in the queues, server active / inactive states, MDaemon up time, and session and message statistics.

Improved and Updated ActiveSync Support
The ActiveSync server now supports ActiveSync protocol versions 12.1, 14.0, and 14.1. This should allow communication with a wider variety of devices and applications, including Outlook 2013.

Redesigned ActiveSync Policies Screen
Many more ActiveSync Policy options are available, including password expiration settings, password complexity level, maximum attachment size, require alpha-numeric password, require device encryption, and several other options.

Updated ActiveSync Options Screen
The ActiveSync Options screen has a new control which will let you specify the number of days of inactivity after which MDaemon will forget about a particular device. This setting defaults to 31 days. When MDaemon forgets a device, it means that any previous configuration and/or access history is discarded. The next time the device connects it will be forced to re-provision if a policy is in place at the domain level, perform an initial folder sync, and re-sync all subscribed folders. This helps to keep your installation clean from having a lot of old / retired / unused devices. As part of the daily cleanup event, MDaemon will check all devices for inactivity.

ActiveSync Device Whitelists and Blacklists
ActiveSync now supports a device ID, device type, and device OS whitelist and blacklist. You can whitelist or blacklist devices based on their ID, type, and OS values.

ActiveSync Restrictions
A Restrictions screen has been added, which lets you specify User Agent and Device Type values and restrict devices matching those values to specific versions of ActiveSync.
