Ubuntu Linux is a popular Linux distribution, but since the introduction of the Ubuntu-developed Unity user interface, there has also been a growing group of disgruntled users. Linux Mint is an Ubuntu-based distribution, which is available with two different desktop environments. The first uses EXTENTwhich is based on the deprecated Gnome 2 code and is intended for older hardware, the other uses Cinnamon, which is based on Gnome 3, but feels like the ‘classic’ Gnome 2 environment. Linux Mint 15 “Olivia” Released!

Linux Mint 15 is the most ambitious release since the start of the project. MATE 1.6 is greatly improved and Cinnamon 1.8 offers a ton of new features, including a screensaver and a unified control center. The login screen can now be themed in HTML5 and two new tools, “Software Sources” and “Driver Manager”, make their first appearance in Linux Mint.
