To map Windows machines in the network, you can use Lansweeper. This program installs itself on a server with IIS and is able to inventory the available software and hardware, without having to install a client program on each computer. All information can then be consulted via a web interface, such as on this demo page can be tried out. Lansweeper is available in a freeware or various payware flavors, which are available on this page are placed side by side. The developer has released version 4.0 and provided the following list of changes:
