KDE has released the second update for version 4.6 of the KDE Software Compilation. This popular desktop environment, which consists of the Development Platform, Plasma Workspaces and Applications components, is primarily developed for Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris, but there are also versions for Windows and Mac OS X, although they are somewhat less advanced in their development. The KDE Software Compilation comes with a standard desktop, including a large number of applications, including a personal information manager, multimedia and network management programs, and games. Version 4.6.2 mainly contains bug fixes and updated translations.

KDE Community Ships April Updates, Congratulates Gnome

KDE has released a series of updates to the Plasma Desktop and Netbook workspaces, the KDE Applications and the KDE Frameworks. This update is the second in a series of monthly stabilization updates to the 4.6 series. 4.6.2 brings many bugfixes and translation updates on top of the latest edition in the 4.6 series and is a recommended update for everyone running 4.6.1 or earlier versions. As the release only contains bug fixes and translation updates, it will be a safe and pleasant update for everyone. KDE’s software is already translated into more than 55 languages, with more to come.

The codename “Congrats” dedicates this release to our friends over at the GNOME camp, who release a new major version today.
