The developers behind the K Desktop Environment have released version 3.5.4 of the popular desktop environment for GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris, among others. KDE comes with a standard desktop including fifteen packages of applications such as a Personal Information Manager, programs for multimedia, administration and network management, games, and so on. In this release, ten new features have been added and about a hundred imperfections have been fixed. The main changes are summarized as follows:

Significant enhancements include:

  • Improved removable device support in Linux (users can now mount all devices supported by FreeDesktop’s HAL and control how it will be done)
  • Speed ​​optimizations in console and Kate
  • Multiple holidays can now start on the same date KOrganizer
  • Lots of fixes in Konqueror‘s HTML engine, KHTML
  • The dialog for sending client-side SSL certificates is now more usable
  • KNetworkConf now supports Fedora Core 5 and handles WEP keys better
