Macecraft Software has released the first release candidate of jv16 PowerTools 2012. This program is intended to tweak all kinds of things in Windows. For example, there are modules to determine which programs are started when Windows boots and you can search for duplicate files. Furthermore, the registry can be cleaned of redundant keys and made smaller, which has a beneficial effect on Windows performance.

New in version 2012 is, among other things, the possibility to ‘inoculate’ the computer, in order to protect it against malware. The program does this by providing the host file with updates from the well-known website Winhelp2000. Furthermore, almost all parts have been updated, which mainly benefits the performance. Since beta 2, the following changes and improvements have been made:

improvement:

• Improved the overall speed of the application.
• Improved the speed of the Global Ignore List.
• The main program window should now load a bit faster.
• Added an option to remove all lines created by PT from the Windows hosts file.
• Added new items to the default Ignore List of the Immunization tool.

Bug fixed:

• Using the Global Ignore List can slow down the History Cleaner’s scan to a point it takes up to an hour.
• Select one backup, click Delete, click No, click Delete, Nothing happens until you close and reopen Backups
• Tools, such as Disk Wiper, can by mistake show a confirmation when run: Item with the description “Default” already exists! Do you wish to overwrite it?
• Disk Wiper shows an internal error message after a wipe operation has completed.
• Aborting the Disk Wiper doesn’t always work.
• Settings not loading. Steps to reproduction: click Settings, switch to another application by using Alt+TAB, switch to jv16 by using Alt+TAB, click on Settings again
• There is no Immunize my Computer in the Tools menu of the Main Window.
• GUI layout problems in Mass rename tool and Startup Manager.
• Incorrect caption in the Comparison of the two snapshots window in the Registry monitor tool.
• Cannot rename or delete a new added tag (by right-clicking) in the same session of the Tag editor.
• Used buttons in Immunization feature stay RED and do not turn to GREEN.
• The Close button in all the new tools of the main window (Mass file rename, merge files, split files, remove files on reboot, find and replace data inside files and wipe files features) closes PowerTools (no return to Main window). PowerTools keeps running in the background.
• Immunize my computer crashes on PC without Internet connection.
• Registry monitor: Counting of highlighted item does not work properly
• Registry monitor: Explore (in the right click menu) does not work properly – it opens to another location
• Registry monitor: Properties (in the right click menu) does not work – nothing happens.
• The first and the second sentence are exchanged in the Live Support´s window. The first sentence should be “Live Support feature allows…”.
• File tool: The Move to Recycle Bin function does not work for files containing the space, underscore, comma and possibly some other characters.
• File tool: The Move to… function copies files instead of moving them.
• File Organizer popup menu says “Rename directory” instead of “List Control”.
• Incorrect caption in the Custom Restore Backup window.
• Select and Unselect were switched in the popup menu.
• Add shortcut to Desktop and Tools menus are missing the new file tools.
• Startup Manager doesn’t always list all disabled items with similar names and descriptions.
• Startup Manager cannot delete disabled items.
• Usage of the Immunize my Computer don’t show up in the Action History.
• Protecting the program usage with password (Settings > Security), does not work properly.
• Canceling the password query can crash the program.

Changes in jv16 PowerTools 2012 2.1.0.1081 beta 2

improvement:

• It’s now possible to tell the Immunization tool to not to block certain websites, like Google ads.
• You can no setup the program to run the Immunization tool automatically every time PowerTools starts.
• The Registry Cleaner should now find a few more errors, due to a bug fix inside the engine.

Bug fixed:

• SetAppID.exe can show an error message or crash after jv16 PowerTools has been installed.
• Backup Tool: The Abort button of all three icons does nothing. Also, it stays red after clicked.
• Immunization tool doesn’t show the number of lines to be added correctly.
• Tip in the Anti-Malware´s window should be moved down and it should be changed to plural (“… directories to these boxes.”).
• Go to main window ->settings -> ‘Integration with windows’ -> Icons in Jump/start menu -> check item -> click OK. After the “specified path not found” application error the application can now be ‘continued’, ‘restarted’ or ‘closed’. However the checked ‘icon item’ is now unchecked and that item is not added to the Jump/Start menu.
• Open the Immunization feature and then close it. Upon reopening the Immunization feature it generates an repeatable Access Violation error.
• Go to main window ->’settings’ -> ‘Integration with windows’ -> ‘Icons in Jump/start menu’ -> check the ‘Backup’ item -> click Ok. Only after the sequence close+start+close of jv16PT the Clean and fix my Computer icon shows up in the Jump/Start menu. Clicking on this CFMC icon however starts the jv16PT Backup function!
• File Recovery: all the boxes (rectangles) must contain some numbers or text, even with “Look only for files of specific size” disabled, if not you get the warning I mentioned in my original post and the tool does not work.
• Action History does not show adding a new startup item in the Startup Manager.
• The Immunization tool can add duplicate items to the hosts file if the hosts file already contains data.
• The Registry Finder (and Registry Find and Replace) does not always find data which is stored in the default value of a registry key.
