Spread the love

A new beta release of HostsMan has appeared. One way to keep out malware and ads is to block the computers that serve this content. This can be done by including the IP numbers of these machines in the host file and pointing them to localhost. Keeping this host file up-to-date is a time-consuming task, but HostsMan can help with that. This free program can update current lists of well-known websites such as Msmvps.com fetch and combine with the already present host file. Furthermore, it can check the host file for wrong, duplicate or malicious lines, there is a built-in editor and the dns cache can be emptied. The changelog for this release looks like this:

Added:

  • Workaround for issue specific to Windows Vista that prevents HostsMan from starting;
  • Read support for 7-Zip archives (32-bit 7z.dll is required);
  • Display warning when using some update features with DNS Client service enabled;
  • Information about DNS Client service to the documentation;

Changed:

  • Removed option to encrypt exported file in “Import/Export” wizard;
  • Improved DPI scaling;
  • Minor UI tweaks;
  • Improved error handling when downloading updates;
  • “Notepad” as the optional hosts file editor replaced with “Default text editor”;
  • Improved installer’s upgrade method;

Fixed:

  • Several minor bugs.
