Hitman Pro is intended as an all-in-one solution to remove viruses, spy, ad and malware from a Windows machine. On the one hand, it uses established programs such as Ad-Aware, Spy Sweeper, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, CWShredder, Trend Micro Sysclean and NOD32 AntiThreat, but there is also a Hitman Pro AntiSpyware developed by Mark Loman himself.

The aforementioned programs are downloaded one by one from the manufacturers’ websites, installed and run automatically. Afterwards, an extensive report is generated with all found and removed junk. Although most individual programs work under all versions of Windows, Hitman Pro will only run under Windows 2000 and XP. Some programs are also installed that can only be used for a limited period of time. Version 2.3.1 is now available with the following changes:

Version 2.3.1:

• Heuristics module in Hitman Pro AntiSpyware improved. The improvement prevents valid files from being mistaken as potentially dangerous by the heuristics module in exceptional situations.
• Request to activate the active functions of NOD32 (in the absence of AntiVirus) is now asked immediately after starting Hitman Pro.
• Proxy server behavior changed. You can no longer specify a proxy server yourself. The address information of the proxy server is simply taken from Internet Explorer; easier for the user. Support for Mozilla Firefox will be added soon.
• In Spy Sweeper 4.5, specifying the drives to scan has changed, requiring adjustment.
• Spy Sweeper 4.5 is temporarily disabled when another external program is running. Spy Sweeper 4.5 conflicts with and slows down other anti-spyware programs.
• Hitman Pro started the NOD32 On-Demand Scan with a switch that always inspected all local disks. Even if the user has not set this up. This has been corrected.
• If only the On-Demand scan function of the NOD32 trial is installed, the NOD32 kernel service will be closed after the scan (saves 15 MB in memory).
• By mistake, non-policy files were installed as policy files (used for SurfRight). This made the Local Security Policy inaccessible in certain situations. This is now automatically restored for the affected users.
• Added CWShredder 2.19.
