Through Hamachi it is possible, as it were, to establish a direct connection with the computer of another Hamachi user, without being hindered by any router, gateway or firewall. Via the established connection it is possible to exchange files and play multiplayer games against each other. All connections between Hamachi clients are secured through a number of protocols. On the forum of Hamachi, the creators have a new beta version in the form of 1.0.0.54 released† The update is from this server to refuel inside. The main innovation in version 1.0.0.54 is the baked-in proxy server, which you can read more about below:

1.0.0.54

  • Equipped Hamachi with simple HTTP/HTTPS proxy. When enabled, the proxy will accept Web client connections from other Hamachi peers and relay them to the Internet using client’s own network connection.

This feature is primarily intended for securing Web browsing experience of roaming users that frequently use untrusted Internet access such as public WiFi, coffee shops, etc.

This is achieved by enabling Hamachi Web Proxy on their stationary (home) computer and then configuring Web browser on their carry-around computer to use this proxy for Internet access.

Hamachi basic accounts are restricted in using Web Proxy as follows –

    • the amount of traffic the proxy can forward *from* the Internet *to* its clients is restricted to apx 2.5 MB. Traffic counter is reset everytime Hamachi is put offline.
    • the restriction does not apply to browsing *.hamachi.cc domains

Hamachi running under a Premium account does not restrict its proxied traffic in any way.

To enable Hamachi Web Proxy –

    • create hamachi-override.ini file in Hamachi’s configuration directory (see 1.0.0.47 release notes for details)
    • add the following lines to this .ini –
        HttpProxy 1
        HttpProxyPort 8888
        HttpProxyAuth 1
        HttpProxyUser someUser
        HttpProxyPass myPassword
    • restart Hamachi

Only first .ini entry is required, it enables Web Proxy when set to 1.

HttpProxyPort specifies which port Hamachi will be accepting browser connections on. Default value is 8080.

HttpProxyAuth enables Proxy authentication if set to 1. Anyone wishing to use this proxy will be required to authenticate themselves using a username and a password specified by HttpProxyUser and HttpProxyPass respectively.

NOTE – That Authentication is OFF by default, and that it is generally a good idea to enable it.

NOTE – The computer that runs Hamachi Web Proxy must have *direct

  • Web access to the Internet. In other words it should not be natively using another Proxy or SOCKS server for its own Web browsing.
  • Added an option for creating bit-level log of authentication portion of the login sequence as well as both client-server and peer-to-peer key exchanges.

To enable this log, add the following to hamachi-override.ini –

      LogCrypto 1

Log filename is crypto.log and it is created in Hamachi configuration directory. It tends to grow very quickly, so keep this in mind when enabling it.

Please use with utmost care as the log contains enough information to re-create exact traffic encryption keys and therefore recover raw network data from an encrypted capture if someone bothers to create it.

  • Minor bug fixes around ‘auto-away’ feature of the online presence module.
  • Minor fix in the code that frames de-tunneled IP multicast packets.
  • Modified Hamachi installer not to create setup log by default. The log (c:\temp\hamachi.log) can still be created if left Control key is held down when the installer is launched.
