Download GrabIt 1.7.2 Beta 5

Ilan Shemes has released the fifth beta release of GrabIt version 1.7.2. This program is able to download files from newsgroups. Binaries that are split into several small files are automatically merged into the original file. GrabIt is free to use, but only registered users have unlimited access to GrabIt Usenet Search and GrabIt Usenet Browser, with more search results and a longer history. New in version 1.7.2 include support for SSL connections and vastly improved decoding speed. A lot of time has also been invested in fixing bugs. The changelog for this release looks like this:

Changes in GrabIt 1.7.2 beta 5 (build 1007):

• Maximum number of connections increased to 50;
• Upgraded the SSL library to version 0.9.8r;
• Added alternating row colors to all the views (can be disabled from the Preferences->Visual panel);
• Most representations of alt.binaries newsgroups are now abbreviated to ab;
• All file sizes are now reported in KB, MB, GB or TB instead of bytes;
• Added an indicator that appears whenever data is being retrieved from the GrabIt Search server;
• Implemented a new configuration wizard for first time users;
• Implemented a new preferences screen;
• Improved SSL stability;
• Improved Windows 7 stability;
• BUGFIX: NZB file association now works in Windows 7 (installer option, no longer available in Preferences->Interface panel);
• BUGFIX: Browseable grouplist can now be updated under Windows 7;
• BUGFIX: Fixed the ‘Abnormal program termination’ error that appeared on some heavy loaded systems;
• BUGFIX: Solved a problem that stopped the Repair and Extract from working on some systems.
