There are more and more web-based email services, such as Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail. In addition, it is annoying to go to the different pages every time, to log in there and keep the screen open. It would be more convenient if you could just use your own e-mail program. That’s where FreePOPs comes in. This program starts a locally reachable POP3 server that turns all webmail services into real POP3 servers. The software is available for BeOS, MacOS X, Windows, FreeBSD, OpenBSD and Linux. Version 0.0.19 was released a few days ago. The Windows version changelog looks like this:

0.0.19 fix release (win feature release)

  • fixed debian chroot jail (thanks Alessandro B.).
  • added win32 script to starf FP & OE. (thanks pegasus).
  • fixed win32 XML generation, now freepopsd.exe -x gmail.lua creates a gmail.lua.xml file instead of writing the XML to stdout.txt
