FileZilla has released a new version of its eponymous open source FTP client, this time in beta. FileZilla is small, simple and yet complete. The program is popular due to its low system resource load. However, a common complaint is that passwords are stored unencrypted on the computer. FileZilla is available for Windows, Linux, and OS X, and can be downloaded from this page be downloaded in different versions.

Be careful with the default ‘recommended’ download, because that’s a Download Manager from SourceForge, which offers some optional offerings before getting the real installer. On the more download optionspage does contain clean installation files and this beta is also clean. In version 3.11.0, the following changes and improvements have been made:

FileZilla Client 3.11.0

Bug fixes and minor changes:

  • Ensure the title bar is at least partially inside the screen boundary when restoring a saved window position
  • Fixed crash if opening a wrapped dialog without having restarted FileZilla after having change language to Chinese or Japanese

New features:

  • Implemented new date/time handling to solve issues with DST conversion
  • *nix: Official Linux binaries are now built for Debian Jessie
  • In passive mode transfer, the source IP of the data connection is now bound to the same source IP as the control connection

  • Requeueing of folder items no longer prints an error message
  • Fix disabling or timeouts
  • MSW: Fix the returned error level of the installer
  • Fix a crash if disconnecting during transfers
  • Official binaries now link against GnuTLS to 3.4.1
  • Official binaries now link against SQLite to 3.8.10.1
